ABUJA – The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP, on Wednesday 8th April, 2026 signed a renegotiated agreement with the Federal Government, bringing to an end months of negotiations over conditions of service in the polytechnic sector.
The signing ceremony which was held at the Conference Room of the National Universities Commission, NUC, in Abuja had the President of ASUP, Comrade Shammah S. Kpanja, signing on behalf of the union, while the Chairman of the Federal Government’s Yayale Ahmed Renegotiation Committee, Dr. Mamud Yayale Ahmed, CFR, signed for the government. Members of the full committee were present to witness the event.
According to the terms announced at the signing, the agreement take effect from January 1, 2026.
The agreement is expected to address issues of welfare, conditions of service, and funding for polytechnics across the country.
